Prepositions: in, on, at

In, on and at say where something is and when something happens..

1What is it?

In, on and at say where something is and when something happens.

2Why do we use it?

Wrong prepositions rarely stop people understanding you, but the right ones make you sound natural. And you use them in every sentence about time and place.

3The simple rule

Place: in = inside (in Kochi, in the room) · on = surface (on the table, on the wall) · at = a point or place (at home, at the bus stop). Time: in = months / years / parts of day · on = days and dates · at = clock times and “at night”.

4Formula

in 2026 / June / the morning  ·  on Monday / 5 May  ·  at 6 pm / night / the bus stop
