She wrote a postcard to J.R.D. Tata pointing out the unfairness, was invited to interview, and was hired.

She taught computer science, chaired the Infosys Foundation and wrote many books for children and adults.

The impact

Her foundation has supported education, healthcare and libraries. She has received the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
