How to Deal With Negative Thoughts
Everyone has negative thoughts. They're not always true, and you can learn to question them.
The ideas
- A thought is not a fact.
- Naming a thought can reduce its power.
- Talking to yourself like a friend helps.
For example
'I'm terrible at this' can become 'I'm finding this hard right now, and I can ask for help.'
Try this
- Write the thought down.
- Ask: what would I say to a friend who thought this?
- Rewrite it in a fairer, kinder way.
Reflect: What would a kind friend say about your situation?
Speak about it
