1What is it?
The Simple Past is for finished actions at a finished time: yesterday, last week, in 2019, when I was a child.
2Why do we use it?
You need it to tell any story — what you did today, what happened at work, your last holiday. Storytelling is one of the fastest ways to build confidence.
3The simple rule
Regular verbs add -ed. Irregular verbs change (go → went, eat → ate). Negatives and questions use did + base verb.

Subject + verbed / irregular past · didn’t + base verb

8Common mistakes
I didn’t went.
I didn’t go.
Why: After “did / didn’t”, the verb goes back to the base form.
I go to office yesterday.
I went to the office yesterday.
Why: “Yesterday” tells you it is past — use went.
She telled me.
She told me.
Why: Tell is irregular: tell → told.
Did you ate?
Did you eat?
Why: Did already shows the past. Keep eat plain.
