Working from home

Read, understand new words, and retell.

1Read

Three years ago, working from home was a rare privilege for most office workers in India. Today it is a normal part of life for millions, especially in IT and services.

The advantages are obvious: no commute, more time with family, and the freedom to work from a hometown instead of an expensive city. For many Malayalis, it has meant moving back to Kerala while keeping a Bangalore salary.

But there are costs. Days blur into evenings. Younger employees miss the learning that happens by sitting next to experienced colleagues. And not every home has a quiet room or a reliable internet connection.

The likely future is a mix: two or three days in the office, the rest at home. The real question is not where we work, but how we stay connected while we do it.
