Join ideas with although, while, since, unless, as soon as, even though, whereas.

Goal: Join ideas with although, while, since, unless, as soon as, even though, whereas.
A complex sentence has a main idea and a dependent idea joined by a linking word. Although / even though = contrast. While / whereas = comparing two things. Since / as = reason. Unless = if not. As soon as / until / once = time. Put a comma after the dependent part if it comes first: “Although it rained, we went out.”
2Examples
Although it was late, we kept talking.
I’ll wait until you finish.
Unless you hurry, you’ll miss the bus.= if you don’t hurry
Since it’s Sunday, the shops are closed.Reason
Call me as soon as you reach.
Kochi is busy, whereas Kollam is calm.
3Common mistakes
Although it rained, but we went out.
Although it rained, we went out. — not both
Unless you don’t hurry…
Unless you hurry… — unless already means ‘if not’
I’ll call you when I will reach.
I’ll call you when I reach. — no will after when
